USFL Legacy Set Idea?
Question for you all -
Do you think there would be interest in a product that was 1-time offering for the USFL Legacy?
Just thinking that how interesting would it be to see Autos (or even GU) of Jim Kelly as a Houston Gambler, Steve Young as a LA Express or Herschel Walker as a New Jersey General in a USFL centered product?
Thoughts?

This would be an AMAZING idea for a football card product. Like you said it would have to be limited which is probably why it hasn't been done yet because if you do it for a couple of years it will lose everything special about it. Game used stuff would probably be tough to come by but maybe they could be really limited. The autograph checklist would be great as long as you can get Kelly, Flutie, Young, etc on board to sign. I mean if you can't get some of the top signers (because Panini has them exclusive or something) the checklist would probably be weak.
I would prefer if Upper Deck did this and maybe made a low end type product of this and then a couple high end or whatever to make enough for it to work but if Panini tried to make this I'd probably be meh on it because they are spread way too thin and are producing too much quantity instead of quality now. A UD version that they took their time to make could be one of the most intriguing football releases in the past couple of years. And if you needed to create buzz for the product you could always include cut autographs of former USFL owner Donald Trump....Selling all my cards here updated as of May------------> Hidden Content

Would definitely be really cool, not sure if there would be a big enough market for it though.

If Upper Deck can pump out a CFL set (and I think Pacific did too years ago) I think you can get enough interest for a USFL set. It would be the perfect time to do so as well. The hobby needs something new, retro and 80s stuff is hot, and you could create all types of buzz with Donald Trump autographs. A well designed set along with a strong autograph checklist (you could have cut autographs of Reggie White too along with other deceased players) would make this a hit in my opinion.

Definitely agree. UD is producing CFL, and I favourably have to say I'm kinda glad it's not Panini. They're doing a decent job with it, and not ovewhelming the print run as well. Everytime I open up a box(which I opened up one of the new 2017 yesterday) I can be relatively satisfied with what I see and get out of a box. Doesn't hurt that I can sell so-so average player jersey cards for $12 either. That's another story!
I don't think Panini would be able to deliver a decent enough product for an off niche set like USFL or CFL. That's just from what I witnessed with what they put out for Hockey when they had their run. Just like you say meh. I was most often "underwhelmed" when opening up their products.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

The only question I would think of would be does Topps still legally have the USFL rights? I am not sure if that would even matter at this point being 30 year removed from the league going belly-up.
However, UD probably makes a lot of sense because of the CFL connection as some of the alumni did play in the CFL but I wonder if it really mattered who produced this at the end of the day.
As for the Trump cut auto idea, this would be extremely polarizing, especially with his history with the USFL.Last edited by scottkoz20; 11-27-2017 at 08:14 AM.

BTW -
Decent reference of players

EDIT - In looking at this list, I wonder how many of the former USFL players ended up playing during the 1987 strike.Last edited by scottkoz20; 11-27-2017 at 08:16 AM.

I get that, but your talking about a league that was 30 years ago. That alone shrinks your market. I love it because i actually rooted for a team, bet you can't guess which one!
I just think the fact that it was so long ago and it's not the NFL, most people would say i don't need to buy any of that. Just my 2 cents.
