Chiefs To Trade QB Alex Smith To Washington Redskins
https://www.profootballrumors.com/20...th-to-redskins
In a blockbuster move that will have wide-ranging implications around the NFL, the Chiefs have agreed to trade quarterback Alex Smith to the Redskins, reports Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. When the deal becomes official on March 14 (the first day of the 2018 league year), Kansas City is expected to receive a third-round pick (No. 78) and a player who will be identified Wednesday, tweets Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Very surprised by this deal as they could of had Cousins for a few million more. What I don't understand is why the Redskins basically threw in Kendall Fuller, who very well could turn out to be a great CB in the league. Doesn't surprise me that an owner like Daniel Snyder goes for a trade like this. Cousins proved his worth and played pretty well with the talent he had, and they still didn't want to pay him.

Don't get my started...I'm a big Skins fan and am upset over this. Sure Smith isn't a huge downgrade compared to Cousins, but you are right the total salary isn't that far off from what we would have paid Cousins, who is younger and already used to the system and coaches. Add to that us losing a 3rd round pick AND Kendall Fuller and it hurts a lot. Fuller was rated the top nickel corner in the NFL and had a great year. Now we are stuck with a game managing, aging QB for the next several years and we lost a draft pick and solid CB. Another head scratching move by this organization who is constantly doing things to irk fans.Hidden Content - use the drop down box at the top left to view all my other albums

Totally agree!!! I am not a very happy skins fan right now! And to top it off, we do not get anything for Kirk Cousins!!!!!
Looking to sell my Kirk Cousins collection as soon as he signs with the next team!

HORRIBLE TRADE for the Redskins imho ... this would be like the Titans trading Mariota for a 6th round pick or the Jaguars cutting Bortles just to sign Trevor Siemian or something else entirely stupid ... I do not get this at all for the Redskins ... it seems like something a little kid would do in Madden ... just very strange.
I was 99.9% sure Cousins would never pay for them again but they could have traded him to the 49'ers last year and gotten a nice haul, and regardless, even if you're going to lose him for nothing, why not draft a Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield or even Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph with your 1st or 2nd round pick and start over while keeping Fuller and the 3rd rounder?
I don't get it.
I also feel bad for Alex Smith as I highly doubt he wanted to go to the Skins ... I imagine he was hoping to go to the Jaguars or Broncos or Vikings ... his career is basically over in Washington imho.
As for the Chiefs, they made out like bandits and now have a gunslinger at QB and a lot of cap space to go sign some real WRs as they now have a QB that can actually throw to WRs ... I wouldn't even be surprised to see them trade that 3rd rounder they got from the Skins to the Steelers for malcontent Martavis Bryant now ...

I'm not complaining as a chiefs fan, we made out really good from this trade but Alex Smith isn't as bad as most people think. I strongly believe he is an upgrade from Cousins. The way i see it Washington is the team that offered what the Chiefs needed so that's the rout they took. Several other teams where offering just as much if not more for him. I wouldn't be surprised if Smith took Washington to the playoffs next year.

Take away Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill and what did he have in KC? That's what he won't have in Washington. Hardly any weapons. Kirk made the best of what he had. Not as mobile, but a much better true QB that threw the ball all over the field. Smith aka 'Captain Checkdown' was spoiled with having those players around him.

As strange as it sounds, I sort of agree with BOTH of the above comments ... I think Alex is "better" than Cousins in that he is more efficient, will have less turnovers, etc ... but I think Cousins is "better" than Alex in that he's a "real QB" who can make all the throws, will use his wide recievers and can gunsling a team to a win. Personally, I like real QBs but I've never been an Alex Smith-hater as he's extremely good at what he does and he plays within his limitations.
To me, the Smith v Cousins debate is a lot like the Dak v Wentz or Mariota v Winston debate ... Dak and Mariota will probably almost always be more efficient and have less turnovers than Wentz and Jameis, and as long as they play within their limitations they can both have great careers, but Wentz and Jameis are "real QBs" that can make all the throws, carry offenses and gunsling a team to victory (I do need to see one more year from Wentz though as the word is that the Eagles are running a gimmicky college-offense and seeing Foles throw for more yards than Wentz did all year, and against the vaunted Vikings defense no less, makes me curious as to whether Pederson is some sort of offensive genius like Sean McVay is).
Alex Smith had a great year this past season and had he been on the Jaguars I think they'd be hoisting the Lombardi trophy in 2 days ... but ... I also don't see him taking the Redskins to the playoffs unless they really kill free agency and the draft as that team has some major holes at the moment ... holes that could have been filled with the draft picks trading Cousins last year would have supplied ... I sort of feel bad for Skins fans though the team has had a ton of success in the past.

I guess this is my way of viewing it which is like card prices...
Smith has a higher floor but Cousins has a higher ceiling.
Smith is more consistent but past his prime and will never be the guy to take the team to a championship. Cousins still has room to grow and is younger.
