Patriots Trade Brandin Cooks To Rams
https://www.profootballrumors.com/20...-cooks-to-rams
The Patriots have traded wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the Rams, as Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. The deal will see Cooks and a fourth round pick head to Los Angeles. In return, the Pats will receive a first-round pick and a sixth-round pick in this year’s draft.
The Pats now have the No. 23 overall pick in the draft to pair with their original selection at No. 31. With those two selections, the Pats could conceivably explore trades to get into the top half of the first round or keep them in order to fill multiple urgent needs. Further down the line, the Patriots also own two second round picks at Nos. 43 and 63.

Brandin Cooks will fit in with the Rams better than he was used with the Patriots.
Looking for Aaron Judge cards, current Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs!

This is the third time a team spent a first round pick to acquire Cooks.
Rams - 2018 1st rnd. 23rd overall
Patriots - 2017 1st rnd, 32nd overall
Saints - 2014 1st rnd, 20th overall (a pick which they traded up from the 27th overall with the Cardinals)

Patriots with 2 - 1st rounders. I can see them trying to bunch them up to move up and draft Jimmy G 2.0 or tell the Giants they want OBJ and here are the 2 - 1st rounders like you asked.

The Patriots really didn't get as much use out of Cooks as they could have and Bill could be deadly with these 1st round picks but the Rams are going to be TOUGH as hell to beat next year if they don't suffer any major injuries.

Taking Cooks out of the equation for a moment, the Patriots essentially traded a 2017 1st (32nd), a 2017 3rd (103rd), and a 2018 4th (136th)
They got back a 2017 4th (118th), a 2018 1st (23rd), and a 2018 6th (198th).
Using Jimmy Johnson's value chart, they gave up:
- 2017 1-32: 590
- 2017 3-103: 88
- 2018 4-136: 38
- total value = 716
in return got:
- 2018 1-23: 760
- 2017 4-118: 58
- 2018 6-198: 12
- total value = 830
Chase Stuart of footballperspective.com posted his own calculated values:
They parted with:
- 2017 1-32: 12.5
- 2017 3-103: 5.1
- 2018 4-136: 3.3
- total value = 20.9
in return got:
- 2018 1-23: 14.6
- 2017 4-118: 4.2
- 2018 6-198: 0.9
- total value = 19.7
In the admittedly older JJ model, Patriots gained the equivalent to a 4th round pick. In the newer CS model, they lost the equivalent to a 6th round pick.
Now add in 1 year of a player still on his cost-controlled rookie deal who picked up 65-1082-7 in the regular season and chipped in 10-155-0 in the playoffs. I think in either event you can argue that having that kind of production for a year is worth gaining a 4th round pick or costing a 6th round pick.
I don't think BB gets enough credit for being such a good GM.
