Jets in 7
This should be a conference final match up but the NHL’s stupid playoff format.
i just hope the Jets win this series. I can not stand Nashville as a city or hockey franchise. 4 years ago right after the preds season ended we were in Nashville and my son wanted a Preadators shirt. It was Sunday and the store at the area was closed so we went across the street to some of the T shirt shops and were asking where we might find a Predators t shirt. we kept getting met with “Nashville Predators what’s that?” Uhhhh the team that plays hockey in that big building right across the street. Great hockey city my eye. Instant loss of respect I also hate driving in that town and all the tourists so it will be extra sweet to see the Jets end Nashville’s season

No it’s not
i have met met one person who likes this format and I’m not sure he honestly likes it. I think he was just saying he liked it so he could get into a debate at work with those of us who were complaining about the format.

Yeah I much preferred the old 1v8, 2v7... etc. format. I mean, yeah no matter what if you want to win the Cup you have to beat good hockey teams but that as a first round match wasn’t fair to either.

Plus with the old format you get "rewarded" for finishing first in your conference. Now, there is not as much (if any) of a gap for a teams' first round matchup. Exciting hockey though, and it makes for closer races to finish off the year with the Wild Card spots, etc. So I see why the NHL went this route.
More chances at a playoff spot nearing the end of the season brings fans to the rink. More $$$.

In theory, the division winner (highest seed) should be playing against the lowest ranked team to qualify (number two wild card) but given the imbalance in some divisions it doesn’t always work out that way. This year it did but look at spots 3-6 in the East:

Last year was kind of the opposite. Habs won the Atlantic and played the Rangers, who were one point behind them in the standings but because the Metro was so strong they were WC1. Old format Habs play 7th Place Ottawa.
