What is the best way to care for your ultra rare cards???

I am curious to know what the best way to care for your most valuable cards? I have quite a few Vilma 1/1's and I would like to know the best way to keep them in the shape they are in? Are the magnetic hard case holders good or the screw downs? Or would I be best off with the regular penny sleeve and top loader? Also, if I use the screw down or some other form of hard case, do I use a penny sleeve also? And one of the cards that I have did form a little mildew on it in a screw down, I don't understand why? Is there any solution to this and any way to stop the card from rotthing besides wiping it off?

    Thanks guys!

A top loader with a penny sleave protects my rare cards just fine. Your mildew problem is obviously due to a moist storage environment. Now, I store some of my rare cards in a safety deposit box. Never know when a fire could break loose in your house or person could steal your rare cards (it happens). Maybe I am paranoid, but I want to have something to give my kids down the road to show them what sports were like before the Robo NBA, NFL and the MLB.

I like using the screwdowns plus the plastic things that have the adhesive at the top that you can put the screwdown in. They protect your cards, and your cards look great in the screwdown. There is no way your cards can get their edges damaged in the screwdowns (Ultra-Mold).

If you want the ultimate in protection, send them in for grading with BGS...

There was an article in Beckett some months back (4-5) about a guy who lived in New Orleans and when the flooding happened, he lost his entire card collection, save for the cards in the BGS holders...

Also, safety deposit boxes are the way to go.. I have many of my PC in a box... It's just more security in my eyes.

The cards or the cases? I don't know what is causing it.

i store all of my GU, autos, RCS, and other high end cards in penny sleeves and then a toploader, and it works out fine.

If you are more concerned with keeping the card in better condition, then it shouldn't matter what grade you get... And you might be able to go the cheaper way which is BCCG, although they don't use the internal sleeve...

I'm actually about to send in a couple dozen cards for grading... nearly 60% are being sent in for the grades, the other 40% are PC cards that, 1) I want a grade for, and 2) for pure protection...

The other thing is though, it will cost you a decent clip of money... The cards I'm sending in are going to set me back about $250.... Thankfully, I believe I should be able to pull out all 9.5's and above...

Penny sleeves and top loaders work just fine for me. Also, if they're too big for top loaders, I put them into a penny sleeve, then a small envelope. Both work, as long as you're not banging them around too much.

If you want their value to increase, and want some of the best protection available, grading is the way to go. Unfortunately, grading costs money, and a good chunk of it too.
