    Hoops Vince Carter

Hi all. Was wondering if anyone could answer two questions I have. First, why didn't Hoops make a Vince Carter rookie card in their 1998 set? I'm in Toronto and a Raptors fan (insert jokes here :) ) and have started my team sets from their first year in 1995 and am on 1998-99 and noticed there is no Vince Carter card.

Second, of the 27 rookie cards he has, which one would be considered his 'real' rookie card? Not looking for his most expensive but the one considered the one widely accepted as the go to rookie card.

I really appreciate any help on this.

98-99 was the lockout shortened season. So some of the early product releases didnt have RCs released in their base set - Fleer Tradition, Hoops, and Thunder were a few. Fleer Tradition inserted Lucky 13 Redemption cards for the first 13 Rookies. Hoops didnt though. Stadium Club also inserted Redemption cards for the Series 1 Foil RCs.

But 2000-01 Fleer Premium inserted 10 Vince Carter insert cards (10th anni-vince-ry) from the past 10 yrs worth of Skybox products. So they took old designs and made a Vince Carter card from it. Even though it isnt his RC year, it is a cool card set to have.

His most expensive and best RC is the SP Authentic RC. The 2 Redemption RCs - Fleer Lucky 13 and Stadium Club Foil are good cards to have. Two of the other good ones which are not as expensive are his E-X Century and Topps Chrome RCs.

Thank you for your detailed reply. It is greatly appreciated. I'll be looking into acquiring the RC's you mentioned above. Thank you again!

His best rookie is still the SP Authentic and I'm surprised it still sells for about $150 on eBay. I know it had a book value peak of $1500 when he won the slam dunk contest but $150 on eBay for a card #D to 3500 is pretty amazing in 2018.

One of my favorite cards - I searched forever for a reasonably priced raw version, and finally just sucked it up and bought a graded copy:
