The son of a Hall of Fame catcher made his Major League debut last week against the Colorado Rockies, pitching 3.1 and allowing only one earned run on five hits while striking out four.
But, on Sunday against the Phillies in San Francisco, he made hist first start with the Giants and earned his first Major League win. Who is this youngster with the legendary baseball bloodline?

His name is Dereck Rodriguez and his father is Hall of Fame backstop Ivan Rodriguez.
Dereck was originally drafted in 2011 by the Minnesota Twins as the 208th overall selection as an outfielder. But, that plan was scrapped and he was converted to a pitcher by the 2013 season. He reached AA in the Twins organization but his tenure with the team ended after the 2017 season. Rodriguez then signed a minor league deal with the Giants and was assigned to AAA Sacramento where he went 4-1 in nine games with 53 strikeouts in 50 innings.
Dereck was called up by the Giants and made his debut on May 29 and earned his first win on Sunday, June 3. He pitched 6 innings allowing 1 earned run and 5 hits to get the win.
