    chris simms ruptured spleen

well tampa bay really has alot of explaining to do,this guy took such a pounding today and they actually put him back in the game in which he led them on a scoring drive,my question with this guy obviously hurt was did they not know how bad he was hurt and as far as john gruden goes he is probably the most overrated coach,i used to have respect for him but not anymore.there comes a time to let your injured qb sit and see what the backup can do now he doesn,t have simms for the rest of the year 0 and 3 and nowhere to go but down, just a little upset over this maybe i,m wrong but let,s see some other opinions take care spuds

Well I read a thing on this, and its not unusual for people to go on in normal activities after they rupture their spleen. But after a little bit it will start to hurt real bad and you have to have surgery. So thats what happened with Simms I guess, he didnt know he was hurt that bad. Then after the game I guess it started hurting, so they checked him out and figured out his spleen was ruptured. I may be wrong, but thats what I read on ESPN.com.

I read that they thought it was cramping. The area of the spleen is interesting because the nerves are all over the place so you really have a hard time pin pointing exactly where the pain is coming from because of the nerves. They obviously didn't know he ruptured his spleen and thought the cramping was from dehydration (which happens alot).

i actually think gruden is a pretty good coach... they finally found a running game today and at least put up a fight until the end... they may not have a steller season but i think they will turn it around soon

Well here is the news from down here in tampa..Originally he went out with what was called sore ribs and dehydration the sore ribs and cramping was know to be from dehydration. Gruden didnt even see what was wrong, the medical people told him he was good to go and simms said he was ok. He came back in, took more hits and got up and just looked woosy after a while. So basically he was playing from the 3rd quarter on with a ruptured spleen. Complained many times of dizziness and what not but stayed in. After the game we got reports that he was in "critical condition" which was the truth, but then they removed the spleen and gave him a blood transfusion and he was stable. Gruden even during the post game press conference they asked about simms going out, and he said he thinks he has some bruised ribs and what not but will be ok. Gruden had not been aware of this happening to simms, or else no WAY would he put simms back in. he is not like that. All in all they are expecting simms to make a full recovery and hopefully be ready to go within 3-4 months. All i have to say is i gained a notch of respect for chris simms, to put it all out there for his team even when he is suffering badly. What a game simms, and get well soon buddy.
