Welp, the itch to bust a few boxes is back.

I haven't been paying much attention to box and case breaks over the past year, so I'm out of the loop somewhat. What are the best products of the past year as far as resale value and overall quality? Doesn't matter if it's high, mid or low end. I like to break products of all levels. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

My opinion, SP Game Used have been by far the best product in terms of resale value.
I have opened 3 boxes so far. My worst box was easily about half of what I paid for it in terms of value of return, and the other two boxes were either at or above the value of a box (I managed to hit a Debrincat True Rookie /12 so i got lucky lol!).

Also, being from Toronto, the fact that the Maple Leafs have game-used memorabilia from the Winter Classic helps me choose this product.

Depending on what tins/blasters cost in your area, you can also look at some Series 1. My LCS has blasters at $20 and tins at $27. Considering you can get a Boeser, Hischier, McAvoy, Debrincat, Dubois, you can't go wrong for the price.

Hope you are lucky with whatever you decide to bust!

I just got back into collecting about a year ago after a 20+ year hiatus. The selection these days is pretty overwhelming...I have money to buy, but I have no idea what to buy... I've been sticking with regular Upper Deck and it's paid off big time for me, I've already pulled a McDavid Young Gun and 3 Auston Matthews Young Guns and I've only bought around 25 boxes of UD total so, it's paying off pretty well. I feel I get my monies worth out of every box I buy, however I'm looking to really expand, but I haven't a clue what to buy... I like the Upper Deck because of the Young Guns and the inserts, but there is just so much product out there... I've been ripping a lot of Parkhurst too and I think it's a decent product... I'm tempted to try Upper Deck MVP, but it makes little sense to me considering I could buy a blaster box of MVP for the same price as regular Upper Deck and regular Upper Deck has the better cards, and cards that are in more demand..

    I'd love some recommendations.

It's funny I enjoy this new stuff, but I still buy a lot of old stuff from the 90's because I kinda feel more comfortable with it, but the cards aren't worth a damn... It's still fun tho, pulling rookies of Hall of Famers never gets old and it's kind of nostalgic as well..

Over the last couple of days I've broke the following boxes.

    1989-90 Topps
    1990-91 Topps
    1990-91 Pro Set
    1991-92 Parkhurst
    1991-92 Score
    1991-92 Stadium Club
    1991-92 Upper Deck
    1992-93 Stadium Club
    1992-93 Fleer Ultra
2014-15 Fleer Ultra Blaster Box (it kinda sucked).
    (5) Blaster Boxes of 2016-17 Upper Deck Series One (my favorite).

Now I have a half case of 15-16 Upper Deck Series One (obviously looking for another McDavid YG).

But yea, I'm looking to expand but I have no clue what to buy when it comes to newer product... And the format which these newer product is released is ridiculous. You have Hobby Boxes, Retail Boxes, Blaster Boxes, Tins, Fat Pack's etc..I'm still trying to figure out what's the best bang for your buck. I mean am I better off buying 3-4 blaster boxes or a retail or hobby box?.. And to be honest, I have no idea what the difference is between a retail or hobby box... I will say I do enjoy the fat packs tho - I've had good luck with them.

If anyone provide answers to my questions that would be great.

Usually you want hobby boxes. They are the ones with the limited hits. But for UD1/2, blasters and retails are a good option if you're looking for Young Guns.

Indeed, my "hits" come in the form of Young Guns per se..... And heck, a McDavid or Matthewes is a "hit" in my books...

Yea, unfortunately with UD blasters the "hits" are limited to Young Guns, "Potraits" and "shining stars"and of course the Canvas cards... Also, some boxes have the "Jumbo Cards" and those are pretty sweet, I pulled a few Matthews "jumbos" and that makes the blaster box alone (you can get ($50+ on ebay for those Matthews Jumbos) ....

I opened a lot of 16/17 Parkhurst too, and I got all the major "black" parallels - including Matthews, and I got his red too and several of his base "rookies" card..... For some reason I'm an Auston Matthews magnet...

Yea, I really want a hobby box of 15/16 UD and 16/17 UD (I've broken 25+ blasters and several tins of that)... There is a guy on ebay selling a lot of both (hobby of 15-16 & 16-17 Series One for $225 for both... But I'm not comfortable with that... I'f I'm going to invest like that, I would rather have a case of 15/16 UD series one (20 box blaster case)....Dave and Adams Card World, has them for t $479.00 for the case... I think I'm gonna buy it.. I shoud pull a McDavid (or 2-3) out of 20 box blaster case - that alone would cover the cost of the case - not to mention all the other YG's, inserts and such I will pull after breaking 20 boxes...

On monday I should have half a case of 15/16 UD Series one , but that full case has me drooling because I know I could pull a McDavid out of 20 blasters...That's $300 ebay right now all day... I'll take my shot on 40 Young Guns + YG canvas (that doesn't count as a YG as far as odds. It's considered "canvas".

I don't really like the tins either I bought a few of the 16/17 and I got nothing special, and those "winter classic cards" are just goofy... I prefer the blaster boxes, because some come with Young Guns "Jumbo" Cards - and those are pretty cool.... I love Upper Deck, but I really want to start diversifying my collection a little more.
