Autographed card find from thrift store
Hi all, I joined just to post this, as I'd like to see what you all think of this.
About a month ago I went to Goodwill here in Austin and found a bag full of sports cards - about maybe 3 to 4 hundred. Some weren't in very good shape, some are in pretty good shape. But when I finally opened the bag to see what I had, I found about two hundred autographed 1990 Bowman hockey cards (along with enough remaining cards to fill about 3/4 of a set).
At first I just thought someone had written on them, but they're real signatures with real sharpie. There are even some dupes, and the signatures are different but similar on the dupes, and in some cases different ink color is used.
I've been collecting on and off for a while now, so I've been around the block a bit. I have no illusions that these are going to be extremely valuable - I can't verify the autographs, obviously, I don't know their history. But this still seems like quite a find - an *unusual* find, if nothing else. So I guess the question I have to ask is this:
Should I at least invest in some sleeves for these? Or are they just defaced and I shouldn't bother?
Thanks all. Nice to meet everyone.

I think some decent protection like sleeves, or some 9-pocket pages to put in a binder would suffice for these. Nice find!

Hmm. Just checked, no. Seems every other Canadian team, but not that one.
There's a handful of '91 pro set Maple Leafs cards, but they weren't signed.
In fact, the absence is rather notable, now that you mention it. It seems the person who collected these had some favorite teams!

I think I agree. Even if not valuable, they're not replaceable. I have no control over how I found them, but now they're in my hands... maybe this weekend I'll get some binder protectors. At the least they're worth showing off, I guess.
Thanks for the reply :)

Welcome, and what a find if they are real autos, I don't remember 1990 Bowman having any autos in the packs, but possibly players that signed in person or TTM signings. Yes if you think its worth it, yes sleeve them and top loader.
Second, can you get pictures of them uploaded here for us to see??

No problem! They the collection you found was probably just a lot of IP (In Person) or TTM (Through The Mail) autographs the initial owner was able to acquire.
And you can probably pickup some pages at your local Wal-Mart. That’ll do just fine.

I think I can do that when I get some time - maybe this weekend. Is there a preferred format or should I just take photos of a few and attach them here? These aren't inserts, I'm 99.9% sure of that, they seem to be, as you said, in person or TTM. I have a few inserts and they are very different.
