    Question about unopened packs

    Hey guys,

I don't know much about basketball cards (just got back into collecting baseball cards after years away actually). But I was cleaning my room, and found a box full of 36 unopened packs of 1999-2000 Skybox Dominion cards (it says premiere edition, too, if it means anything) that my uncle gave me about 12 years or so ago. The box is no longer sealed (the packaging ripped long ago). The box isn't in great shape. But the packs are still fine. I kinda want to open them, but my family says I shouldn't. As the box isn't in great shape, I'm better off just opening the packs and hoping for some good hits, right? I don't really sell cards anyway; I hold most of what I get. Anyway, thanks in advance. If there are any typos, sorry, I'm on mobile lol.

Just a quick search shows a box sold on EBAY:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-00-NBA...t=nc&LH_Sold=1

The thing about the set is some of the parallels can be worth quite a bit if you look on eBay sold listings:

So by theory if you going to keep the cards anyway the best thing would be to open them and enjoy them unless you plan on selling them down the road as keeping them sealed in the packs keeps the value. Of course you cannot enjoy the cards and share them with folks on the hobby boards if they just sit in the box lol. Best of luck with whatever you do and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Thanks, Don! I think I'm just going to open them. I know I'll enjoy it. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake lol.

Yeah, there are some pretty decent insert parallels you can get out of that set. I remember getting a box of it years ago and being excited when I pulled a Grant Hill Sky's the Limit Plus. It was a 1:288 pull, IIRC.

Hope you get something cool like that from your pack opening.
