    Autograph Question

I have a few baseball cards I am looking to get autographed strictly for my personal collection. Nothing real valuable, just of interest to myself.

Question: What is the preferred pen to use on cards? I know the regular sharpie is preferred on larger items, right? But that seems to be a little overpowering on something the size of a card? Would the same type pen be used to auto a baseball?

    [I'm kinda new to autographs]

    Thanks.

I assume you are going to get the cards signed in-person. Use a thin point sharpie and it should look fine.

I always use fine point Sharpie on cards. However, if the card is glossy, make sure you prep it by either rubbing with a white eraser, rubbing with baby powder, rubbing with your finger, or rubbing against denim (or a combo of these things). This allows the Sharpie to stick. Older cards don't need this prep, only glossy cards.

Let us know if you have more questions, I have been getting IP graphs for years

Don't forget about the Staedtler Lumocolor. Really a GREAT option, depending on what you're getting signed.

I suggest getting some other inexpensive cards from the same set (or same era, at least) and sign them yourself. See which one you like the best, and use it.

The reason I say to try them yourself is because different pens write differently on different surfaces. I've linked to a great article about the pros and cons of each pen.

    Good luck!
