Tips for team set collectors?
Are there any good ways to collect team sets, like say the base cards of a particular team in a set? Seems like shipping makes this rough unless you can find someone with all of the base cards and low value inserts. But otherwise it seems like you’re gonna get soaked for like $5 shipping on $1 cards. Any tips would be appreciated.

The best way is to find someone here on SCF that opens lot of boxes and can ship all the base and inserts at the same time, you can create a thread asking for that, you'll get a lot of answers. Shipping shouldn't cost a lot, I know that for me from Canada I can ship up to 20 cards for 3 usd.

If you can't find trade partners on here I would try out COMC. You can get lots of cards shipped for only $3.99. You just have to shop around for decent priced cards. They have a Black Friday promotion every year where some prices become reasonable.

A lot of the stuff I saw on COMC seemed to be higher priced than eBay, is that usual?

If you're in the early stages and need a lot of base, look for team lots here and on Ebay. When I build up a lot of base I sell them in lots of ~1500 per team.

I think with popular releases, it should be pretty easy. Lots of people will bust boxes (or cases) of UD1, for example, and want nothing to do with the base.
If you're looking for a team set: I'd just make it known, and it should be pretty easy (on some sets) to get one.

I collect all San Jose Sharks and sometimes what I do with newer releases is join a group case break and ask if the breaker could include a team base set along with my hits. For the older products, you have to get lucky to find people with complete team sets and generally bite the bullet on the price too

With Ebay you might be paying multiple sellers for shipping. When purchasing on COMC you are only paying for shipping when you request your cards to be shipped.
I'm constantly looking for and purchasing cards on COMC as prices are always changing. I request shipping usually after I have 30 or more cards to ship.
When product is sold thru E-packs the cards become ultra cheap. The last couple of years it's how I've completes my OPC update sets.
