See https://www.ebay.com/usr/nine_pockets's Items on eBay Instagram:

So a "rainbow" means the card has multi-color foil on the front? (I'm not much of a modern collector, but I think I have one of those.)

@aweeks can we get clarification. I'm under the impression that a rainbow is a base card plus all of its parallels (example- Base, clear cut, silver foil, rainbow foil, exclusive, midnight, high gloss, possibly printing plate) not saying you have to have all those or maybe you do?

Rainbow – Short for completing the rainbow – Most sets will feature refractors to collect alongside the common base card. Completing the rainbow means you have collected every available refractor as well as the common of the same player or card. Most rainbows will feature 8 – 10 cards while some can be as low as 4. Some refractors will be numbered 1/1, /5, or /10 so it becomes increasing difficult to find as the numbers get lower.

Refractor – A card that has a chrome reflective service.(surface?) Refractors will look identical to their common base counterpart except that their border will feature a different color. Refractors are rarer than commons and come in a variety of colors. Refractors can be numbered, autographed, GU, or any combination of the three. Refractors make up a rainbow.

So if you look at card #82 from 2007-08 The Cup as an example, there are 6 cards to collect for the rainbow. I don't count printing plates, but 1/1 cards do count. (base /249, black 1/1, black patches 1/1, gold /25, gold jerseys /25, gold patches /10). That is my understanding for the term rainbow.

I'm confused as to how the Gretzky I entered is not a rainbow card, it is a Legend Rainbow card from O-Pee-Chee, if a rainbow is not a rainbow card than what exactly is a rainbow card lol

I had to get a bit creative when scanning my group, as there are 10 cards in the rainbow. They come from 2003-04 Topps C55 minis, and I believe there are only 5 copies of the Bazooka card. I've added a second scan to show what the front of the cards look like. I realize this shows a different example from the definition above, but since it shows many varieties of the same card I'm thinking it qualifies as a rainbow. Sorry if this muddles things further, but I'm curious to know.
