    A precautionary shipping tale...

Recently I wound up having a fairly traumatic experience (as far as trading goes) with Canada Post and I figured I should share so others can avoid it. Long story short, I had a 300 count box of cards worth about 1000bv destroyed while going through the mail. The long side of the box was crushed and nearly every card received a stinger on bottom right corner. It looked like the box had been spiked on the pavement...we're talking the corners of 1/4" cards completely smashed in. Because I had paid for extra coverage I took some pictures and filed a claim with Canada Post. I mentioned that I had always sent large volumes of cards in these card boxes to all over the world and had never had a problem. It seemed like a pretty open and shut case, especially because I had paid for insurance...and then I waited...

    ...and waited...

    ...and waited...

...and was told about 3 months later that I was supposed to double box the cards (despite this not being mentioned anywhere on the CP site) and that they weren't going to refund me anything. Out shipping, out insurance cost and worst of all, out cards. Tough luck buddy.

So I filed a complaint with the Canada Post Ombudsman (yes, they have their own Ombudsman...) and waited some more. This time I was actually contacted by the person handling my claim and was eventually told that they had advised Canada Post to pay me the insurance as an "act of goodwill" even though they agreed that the damage was unacceptable and that Canada Post didn't actually state the "rules" by which they originally denied my claim. 7-8 months of fighting but I eventually "won" lol.

SO...here's what to remember when sending card boxes in the mail. DOUBLE BOX THEM. The boxes are processed using conveyor belts and can have much larger and heavier boxes fall on them. Also, they must be able to withstand a 3ft drop. I have no idea how Canada Post comes to a valid conclusion about any of these things happening but you've been warned, cover your butts (and DOUBLE BOX YOUR CARDS)...end rant.

Thanks for sharing your experience. On top of the double box, we can also use styrofoam inside of the box, I saw that recently on a magic the gathering video, it was very well protected
