NYPD Investigating Kristaps Porzingis For Alleged Rape?

The New York Post –
Hours after suffering a devastating knee injury at Madison Square Garden last year, former Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis came home and allegedly raped a neighbor he’d invited to his luxe Manhattan penthouse, the woman told police, according to law enforcement sources.
The woman made her stunning allegation against the 23-year-old player on Thursday afternoon — and investigators consider her credible, one high-ranking NYPD source told The Post.
The accuser is “believable,” the source said, despite her not reporting the alleged attack until over a year later, and her admission to cops that she discussed getting $68,000 in hush money from the multi-millionaire baller.
The alleged attack happened Feb. 7, 2018 at the soaring Sky building in Midtown West, the woman told cops at the 10th Precinct stationhouse, the sources told The Post.
The woman — who is in her 20s and also lived in the building — told cops the NBA star visited her apartment at around 2 a.m., and that she accepted his invitation to go back to his posh pad.
Once inside, the towering, 7-foot-3 Latvian allegedly held her down and raped her, she told cops, according to sources.
The NYPD’s Special Victims Division has taken over the case and is investigating, the sources said.
The woman told cops she waited over a year to talk to police because Porzingis allegedly promised to give her money to keep her quiet, the sources said.
She told cops Porzingis promised to give her $68,000 to pay for her brother’s college tuition, but then reneged, the sources said.
It is unclear if any money ever changed hands between the two.
Porzingis’ current team, the Dallas Mavericks, has been made aware of the woman’s accusation, according to team owner Mark Cuban.
“We have been instructed by federal authorities not to comment,” Cuban told The Post in an email, which he cc’ed to NBA officials and Porzingis’ reps.

Appears there might be more to this.

Porzingis' attorney, Roland G. Riopelle, denied the allegations and said they had previously referred the case to federal authorities due to the "accuser's extortionate demands."
"We are aware of the complaint that was made against Mr. Porzingis on Friday and unequivocally deny the allegations," Riopelle said. "We made a formal referral to federal law enforcement on Dec. 20, 2018, based on the accuser's extortionate demands. We also alerted the National Basketball Association months ago, and they are aware of the ongoing investigation of the accuser by federal law enforcement. We cannot comment further on an ongoing federal investigation. Please refer any questions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the National Basketball Association."
Without getting into an argument, this is a no win situation for either side, regardless of the outcome.

Yeah I read about that. Terrible kind of story you never want to hear about, but nothing surprises me anymore in today's culture.

The woman who accused former Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis of sexually assaulting her in his apartment in February of 2018 reportedly continued to pursue a relationship with him, sent him explicit photos of herself, and asked the team to mediate a $68,000 settlement in order to pay her brother's college tuition after the alleged attack.
According to emails obtained by ESPN, the 29-year-old woman, who reportedly lives in the same building as Porzingis, also contacted the Knicks' legal department, asking the team to 'mediate in private' after what she referred to as an 'extremely aggressive encounter' with him on February 6, 2018. The alleged attack occurred just hours after he suffered a significant knee injury that will keep Porzingis sidelined until next season.
On Monday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea confirmed that the department is investigating the allegation.
Porzingis, who has since been traded to the Dallas Mavericks, has denied his accuser's claim.
ESPN reported that emails and text messages between Porzingis and his accuser in the aftermath of the alleged attack suggest the woman was interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with the 23-year old.
Some of the texts sent by the accuser to Porzingis included explicit photos of herself as well as a request to spend intimate time with the former NBA All-Star, according to ESPN.
The report states that it is unclear if Porzingis and the woman had any sexual encounters after the assault. As the New York Post reported Saturday, the accuser did not report the alleged attack to police until Thursday.

To make matters worse, she's apparently a minority, and alleges that Kristaps called her "slave," and a certain word referring to her gender that I can't reveal here. It's a very ugly story that keeps getting more outrageous, and it sounds like she's exaggerating or outright lying about at least several crucial aspects of the case. In a social milieu still reeling from the Jussie Smollett story, and all the tension with different races and men/women and sexual boundaries going on right now (Joe Biden, etc.), this couldn't come at a worse time. Even if Kristaps isn't guilty of any of the more severe accusations, he's at least an idiot for hanging out with this woman for so long.
