Noobie question(s)

Fairly new to the game. My brother in law gave me a very mint Jordan 90s fleer and few other rookies and I believe I caught the bug.

Anyway I wanted to know if it’s worth while stashing a few good rookie base cards say from the Optic rated rookie base line?? I bought a PSA 10 Doncic for fairly cheap. Am I wasting my time with the baseline cards?

In basketball I believe you would be wasting your time with just base cards since it tends to be a very high end oriented market. Doesn't mean in the future that stuff won't be valuable but unlike other sports high end is king in the basketball world now.

Yeah the low and mid end market has almost died completely. It's sad but I can't do many deals now because most of the remaining basketball collectors only care about the high $$$ stuff. Oh well, I still enjoy my collection, and I got the Giannis Prizm RC back when it was still cheap. :)

@jlo913- Welcome to SCF!. I would say if anything, having graded rookie cards is a better bet than having ungraded ones.

If you are starting out than base rookies might be a good start. If you are looking for an investment than yeah the higher end stuff is the way to go. If you are looking to start a personal collection of a certain player that is great otherwise picking the superstar is the bigger thing. I haven't heard too many people complain of stocking up on graded 9.5 or 10 of star player rookies.

Different factors play into it. Basketball is a little different than say baseball. You can have prospects in baseball be years away from the show and sell for big money. No guarantee they will pan out and people spend 4 figures on the card. Best of luck on whatever you decide and welcome!
