Monster Contract for Vasilevskiy
Details here .... https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl...sion-1.5228806
Anyone else think that they might have overpaid for a goaltender who really hasn't proven himself yet in the playoffs?

Maybe, guess we'll have to see how the contract pans out (Plus he's only 25, so he can still be an incredible goalie throughout his contract extension and beyond if he keeps up his play). He's been a monster in the regular season, so they want to keep him.
The team is at the player's mercy at that point so he can pretty much command whatever he wants. He's one heck of a goaltender. I love watching Vasi play. So technically gifted.Last edited by creasecollector; 07-29-2019 at 04:05 PM.

The Lightning have made some solid signings with Stamkos (8.5 mil/yr), Hedman (7.875 mil/yr), and Kucherov (9.5 mil/yr) so I'm a little surprised that they ponied up 9.5 to Vasilevskiy. I recognize that goalies play a premium position but I thought that he might be somewhere in the 7.5 - 8.5 mil range. I'd be interested in seeing how this impacts their ability to sign Point.

Too much, IMO. The "he hasn't proven himself in the playoffs" thing does't worry me, it's just I think 9.5 million is too much for a goalie.
Let's just assume that he *IS* a top 3 goalie in the league. If I was building a team..... I'd rather have the 11th best goalie and an extra 3-4 million in cap space.
He's young enough that this shouldn't burn them too bad. Will be 33 when the contract expires.

I'm just happy that for once, a Lightning player didn't take a massive discount to play there.
