A Jersey Used Over Four Seasons! A Stunning Piece of a Former First Round Draft Pick!

A new month is here, that means we start with a brand new goalie piece for the collection. Don't forget to "LIKE" Bruce C. Goaltending Museum on Facebook and "FOLLOW" us on Twitter!

Born on August 7, 1992 in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada, Mark Visentin proved himself as a strong junior goaltending prospect while with the Niagara Ice Dogs in the OHL, even winning the U17 World Hockey Championships with Team Canada in 2008-09. This promise led to him being drafted 27th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2010. In the 2010-11 season, he won the World Junior Championships' Silver Medal in a real heart-breaker against Russia, and he was also named the OHL Goaltender of the Year. The next year, he improved beyond his previous season. He won bronze in the World Junior Championships and was an OHL elite goalie as he not only had the lowest GAA, he also had a league best 10 shutouts. In 2012-13, Visentin turned pro as he joined the AHL's Portland Pirates and very briefly the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators. He posted respectable numbers as a rookie. The following year, he took over starting duties in Portland and his strong play got him his call-up to the Phoenix Coyotes on March 25, 2014. After eight games on the bench, he finally got his chance. On April 12, 2014, Visentin started against the San Jose Sharks and stopped 29 of 32 shots in the team's 3-2 defeat. He backed up one more time that season. He was just beginning to get his stride when he injured his ankle in the 2014-15 training camp. The injury ended up putting him out of action for the entire season. That injury completely dropped him out of the goaltending picture in Arizona so in 2015-16, he was signed as a free agent by the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals. He played well, however, he only appeared in 13 games. He spent the majority of 2016-17 in the ECHL prior to playing one game with Hungarian squad Alba Volan Szekesfehervar in 2017-18. In October of 2018, he officially retired from play. To think, had he not injured his ankle and lost an entire season, he may have been a star goalie of the future. Losing a season to injury as a first rounder and disappearing into relative obscurity seems to closely mirror the tale of Brian Finley.

In his career, Visentin appeared in one NHL game, recording an 0-1-0 record with a 3.06GAA, and a 0.906% save average. He appeared in no playoff games.

What you are looking at right now is a 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-14 White Set 1 Jersey used in a multitude of action including pre-seasons, but most importantly, it has been photomatched to five games of his callup in his NHL debut season of 2013-14 (though the dark Home jersey was used in his debut). It features several puck marks, post paint transfer on a sleeve, and a covered up old Reebok logo.

Acquired from: Jason Harrison, includes Detroit Hockey Co. LOA

Dates of Game Use: 2010-2013 pre-seasons
    March 25, 2014, March 27, 2014, April 2, 2014, April 8, 2014, April 10, 2014, and April 13, 2014 as a regular season back-up

    Photomatched: Yes

Even better when I didn't even expect to as I had originally bought it as a pre-season only jersey, only to discover it was sooooo much more.
