How To Start A Hockey Card Collection: My Step-By-Step Guide
Hey guys,
I recently posted another blog post on my site and I'd appreciate it if you check it out. Although this article is mainly meant for beginner collectors, I think there are lots of good tidbits of information that even us experienced collectors need to hear again to gain some perspective. I kind of wrote it with both perspectives in mind.
I hope you enjoy!

Very well-written article, my friend, and a solid introduction for rookies & a refresher for a lot of us long-time collectors to think about why we got into things in the first place.
"Collect what you like" is such a basic pillar that is so easily overlooked. What motivates us to go after a particular player, team, or set? Usually the team affiliation comes naturally. A Habs fan is going to naturally gravitate to Habs cards, sure, but which Habs cards? All of them? Good luck with that! Patrick Roy was your favourite growing up? Better be able to be selective because he's literally got more cards than any other player in NHL history. The latest hot rookie? Better hope he doesn't get traded. Josh Gorges? Nobody likes him. LOL I think that with enough time, we can boil it down to a handful of current guys, maybe the base set & parallels for UD1/2 and some SPA FWA's, and roll from there. Obviously I've had two major collections in my 12 years at this: Carey & Josh. Like many, the mythology of the #1 goalie for the Canadiens captured me, and I bought in early on this kid and haven't let go. Josh is a hometown boy who played for the hometown WHL team and spent 8+ years in Montreal, emerging as a leader & potential captain. For me it always comes down to guys who are relatable, who are cool, and are good with the fans. These two guys, whenever I meet up with them in the summer, have always been great to me.
Have your McDavid's and Matthews's and all of that, but do it because you're genuinely a fan of those guys, not because you want to have an unconventional stock portfolio to impress your friends and girls. LOL
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Collect what you like is such a critical aspect of this hobby. It sounds simple, but so many people need to be reminded of that.
Nice write up man!
