Players don't tank. Period. Too much pride. You can't even ask them to do that.

GMs can certainly put their teams in a position to lose. The Red Wings finishing last was not a fluke. At this point? No, nobody is tanking for a 12.5% chance to win the lottery.

I'm sure everyone of those players would love to play on a line with Alexis. They'd love to win a Stanley Cup more.

And to some extent, some of them somewhat already have for this season at the trade deadline. Teams like Montreal, Chicago, etc. who didn't anticipate that they'd be getting a second chance at the post-season unloaded expiring assets in February. The Habs traded Ilya Kovalchuk, Marco Scandella, Nick Cousins, and Nate Thompson in the days leading up to the deadline--now, three of these four guys aren't exactly "game breakers" but ya think Bergevin wouldn't like to have Kovy out there against the Penguins?
