Quinton Byfield Signs Exclusive Autograph Deal with Upper Deck
https://www.beckett.com/news/quinton...th-upper-deck/
Hours before being drafted — likely within the first two picks — Upper Deck announced they’d signed highly touted NHL prospect Quinton Byfield to an exclusive autograph deal.
Although specifics of the agreement weren’t divulged, it does cover both hockey cards and memorabilia.
Byfield has appeared on Upper Deck cards since 2018-19 in the company’s various CHL sets. He’s also in 2020-21 Upper Deck Team Canada Juniors. His checklist of early cards does include several autographs.
NHL cards and autographs will start rolling out once he makes his debut. According to Upper Deck, Quinton Byfield autograph memorabilia will be available on their website within the next few months.
In signing Byfield, it means that both of the consensus top picks in the 2020 NHL Draft have exclusive deals with Upper Deck. Alexis Lafreničre was named the company’s youngest ever spokesman in March, 2019.

With UD having both Lafreniere and Byfield under contract, this will be the first time in a few years that BOTH top picks will have autographed rookie content in Upper Deck products their first season.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Eichel cards from Leaf too.

UD overall needs competition i find no one company should not get exclusives on Autographs either sucked for kaapo kako so I didn't like panini getting that exclusive either. Sometimes panini did have some nice auto selection back in 2010-14 yea even if lots were stickers I didnt mind

I'd be curious to know how much extra they had to pay him to make it an exclusive.... because my initial thought when reading this was "why?"
Saying that, getting him to an autograph deal is important for them... but an exclusive?
I can't imagine the existence of Leaf or Panini Byfield autos would diminish the value of UD cards one iota. If he looked like he was going to be a "generational superstar" I would get it (paying for a McDavid exclusive makes perfect sense, Matthews as well) but I don't believe anyone is suggesting that will be the case.
