    talk is cheap....

just rememmber --- USC has everything to lose when you guys play us this year

it's a no-brainer that USC will most likely be favored by 14-17 points (UCLA was 21 point underdog to Sooners)

so UCLA should be able to play carefree - everything to win, nothing to lose

    can't beat that!

    UCLA 46, 18th ranked Washington 16!!

wowowow...30 minutes of incredible defense, and fairly good offense.

After being down 13-7 going into halftime, the Bruins went WILD!!

2nd half kickoff resulted in the Huskies player being tackled at his 7-yard line. 1st play from scrimmage resulted in a QB sack, fumble, and recovery by Leisle for a TD.

CB Page also intercepted a pass and ran it in for a TD

Olsen played a fairly good game..but it was all defense all the time!!!

and the rout was on!!! 33 unanswered points by the Bruins in the 2nd half

UCLA now 1-0 in conference play!

unfortunately, University of Spoiled Children also won, so they are 1-1 in conference play as well

Oregon (they were featured 2 weeks ago on SI, and promptly got spanked by something like 55-7 at home) lost again, this time to Utah St. on Thursday.

UCLA now plays Arizona -- the worst team in Pac-10, who just fired their coach this season (very rare!), and have the worst offense and defense in the Pac-10.

Next Saturday should be a fun, stress-free game!!

    10/11/03: UCLA 24, Arizona 21

boy, what an ugly game...but better than USC's "pretty" loss to Cal last week, lololol

UCLA fell behind 21-10 at halftime, thanks in part to Karl Dorrell's decision to put in Matt Moore for 3 possession of the 2nd quarter, resulting in 2 INTs thrown by Moore.

boy, it looks like the QB controversy just won't die! Moore was the starting QB, got hurt with a high ankle sprain several games ago, and Drew Olson has been doing a fairly good job since then.

Now, Moore has recovered from the injury, and Dorrell insists that a starter can't lose his job to injury.

Well, I say that Moore and Olson are basically two of a kind. Not much differentiates them, esp. that Moore has a bit of a stronger arm, while Olson is a tad bit more experienced, having played more in the last 2 years.

    So, stick with Olsen!!!!!!!

Anyways, the 2nd half was tremendous! Olsen played the entire 2nd half, and helped UCLA to a TD.

The other second TD was scored by Rod Leisle, who intercepted a pass and rumbled his way to the end zone.

UCLA's 2nd half defense was super!!!! Overall, had 4 INTs, and 1 or 2 fumble recoveries.

UCLA was playing the worst team of the Pac-10, and it should've been a blow-out.

    But, I'll take it!!

CASoxFan -- lolol...I assume you mean the countdown to the UCLA-USC game?

lololol....there's nothing to fear when you have nothing to lose.

USC is ranked #4....UCLA is not ranked.

it's a no-brainer that the oddsmakers most likely will have USC as 14+ point favorites.......

and that is the beauty of sports............

you never know who's going to win.

    10/18 update: UCLA 23, Cal-Berkeley 20, in OT

    wowowowow!!

UCLA wins on a field goal in OT, and watches as the Cal kicker has his field goal, from 51 yards, clank right off the left goal post....so close, and yet so far away.

This was a game where UCLA got out to an early 7-0 lead on a TD pass from Olson to Taylor or Bragg (I forget who scored).

The UCLA defense was just tremendous, until the end of the game, where they wore out, with Cal having a 12-minute advantage in possession time.

UCLA special teams had 3 FG blocks, returning one for a TD by Brendan Chiller to give them a 20-12 lead (extra point missed)

but, with just 20-30 seconds to go, on a 4th down and 10, Cal QB zinged a perfect TD pass to a Cal receiver. the 2-point conversion was successful, and that led to OT. On their last possession of regular session, Cal converted a 2nd and 28 yards to go, en route to an 85-yard drive that resulted in the TD.

Nevertheless, UCLA held on to win (despite Olson taking sack after sack after sack. If he keeps haning on to the ball rather than throwing it away, Matt Moore will be in)

UCLA is now 3-0 in Pac-10 play. USC has 1 loss in Pac-10 play

USC blasted Notre Dame today, something like 45-14. These are 2 teams I hate with a passion, and I decided to root for USC, b/c I want them ranked as highly as possible when UCLA kicks the living SH*T out of them this coming November!

ahhh but see, UCLA does have something to lose. As of right now, UCLA has a better Pac-10 record then USC. UCLA has a good chance at a Rose Bowl and the only thing stopping them is USC.

    GoOoOo USC!!

    lolol....that's a good point, Harris.

but, USC is considered the superior team, and no doubt, they're the likely favorite to win when the two teams hook up in November.

And yes, UCLA currently has a better Pac-10 record...but UCLA has yet to play the better teams in the Pac-10 (USC, Washington, Oregon)....we've mostly played patsy teams Arizona and Cal

I'd watch out for Cal, they beat us.

The only team UCLA has to fear is USC this year.

With our defense, and an offense that doesn't kill itself, we've got the chance to roll all the way to the Pac-10 title, with one EXCEPTION

can we stop the offense of the Trojans?

we have a much better defense in recent memory.

If we had this defense back in 1998...we'd have played in the championship game, rather than getting steamrolled 48-10 or something like that, by Miami and Edgerrin James
