    Recent Habs Signings

Normally, I am a vocal critic of Marc Bergevin. He's made some nice moves since his tenure in Montreal as well as some really stupid ones.

His recent signings of Perry and Frolik though are low-risk, with the potential to yield moderate rewards. Perry still has enough in the tank to play third-line minutes while providing some grit and leadership both on the ice and in the locker room. I would not be shocked to see him get some PP time as well. Very few players on the Habs can consistently do what Perry does on a regular basis. Gallagher is one of those players, however I'm sure he will enjoy having another agitator to muck it up in the corners and in front of the net. Frolik will add some depth and versatility to the lineup, and is capable of playing either wing.

Signing both players for 1 year, $750,000 is a steal. Regardless of how either of these players perform this year, Bergevin deserves the credit for snapping this guys up for the price he paid.

    My predictions:

    Perry will play 44 games - (6 goals) - (14 assists) - (+4) - (32 PIMs)
    Frolik will play 48 games - (2 goals) - (6 assists) - (-3) - (12 PIMs)

Anyone want to share their predictions?

The Habs don't have a lot of superstar talent, but they may now be the deepest team in the league. That will serve them well with this year's abbreviated season.

Solid signing with Perry at that price.

I think the Habs have had a very good off season. I never had a high opinion of Max Domi, and flipping him for Josh Anderson (this was the big move they made, IMO) was a good trade. While I think they're taking on some risk with Anderson's contract - overall it was a good thing to do.

I do not obsess over the idea that you need former Stanley Cup winners on your team, but I think at the very least you do need a couple of guys that have gone very deep in the playoffs. Maybe they have not won a Cup, but they've been to a finals.

Montreal went out and added that, big time. Jake Allen, Joel Edmundston, Corey Perry, and Michael Frolik have all won Stanley Cups. That's the kind of thing you want to see your team add.

Assuming that they get a healthy season from Carey Price, I don't understand how anyone is picking Montreal to finish lower than 3rd in the Canadian division. I don't think I'd pick them to win it - but ending the season in 2nd or 3rd looks like a good bet to me... and on paper they look like the kind of team that could go very deep in the playoffs.

The Perry signing means I might have to go delete some old tweets, but I gotta say I like this offseason a ton. You think about these two depth acquisitions, the Anderson-for-Domi trade, Toffoli/Edmundson/Allen....oh and Romanov. This squad is much improved over last year. The playoffs gave us a glimmer of hope and I think Bergevin wants more than a glimmer. This team has been "let's make the playoffs and see what happens" for a long time now....this year, they're going for it. I'm excited. It's two weeks tomorrow to opening night, and it's hard not to be enthusiastic about it.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

A team with not much talent added a few over the hill guys.
Domi's bad year was equal the Anderson's best. Nothing has changed, they won't score enough.
Lucky if they finish ahead of the Sens.
