'06 Leaf R&S Gripe for the day

Whats up with Leaf R&S not having a rookie in every pack this year? That was one of the big selling points in the past (in my opinion anyways).

Plus, these may be some of the ugliest cards I have seen (post year 2000) lol...

What does everybody else think about this years efforts (or lack thereof) with the '06 Leaf RS?

Honestly? This seems to be the point of -all- of Donruss's product this year.

Threads, Gridiron Gear, Elite, Rookies & Stars....very unfriendly for full set building. And who really cares to pull a #'d to 599 card of some undrafted free agent?

Yeah, in my humble opinion (I'm full of 'em today) lol, they ruined Gridiron Gear this year too. Arguably the hottest product of the year last year and now there is very little special about it. I bought one box, get a hot box - pull (8) 1-color jerseys and a 5th round draft pick auto...and that was a "Hot" box...and two no-name rookies.

Not to sound like I'm not gracious, but I would have rather had 3 hits total with a nice auto and/or patch card.

The cool thing about the Leaf RS in past years is that there always seemed to be one or two "regular issued" rookies that would get hot somewhere down the road and made it fun to go back and see if you hit it....now it's a Drew Olson #d/599 in the (4) packs you buy (if you're lucky) :-(

For set building, I would be more likely to build something like LR&S or Gridiron Gear (or, maybe, 2004 Elite:-)) than something like Bowman or Topps. What's the point of set building if you can spend $15 and 4 minutes on eBay and get most of your set?

As far as buying packs/boxes, I think that is a bit of a draw back. It's nice to come away with something other than base, even if it is a 7th round draft pick!

The GG hot boxes were like that last year as well. I think from what I've seen, GG is once again one of the best releases.

gridiron gear flat out sucks this year....did a great job ruining the best product of the year in 05....horrible design and no where near the nice hits as last year. never been a huge fand of R&S, but i dont like the design this year either.

Yeah, I was severely disappointed with Leaf R&S when I broke my box. It feels like Topps DP&P. You get two more hits and they are a little nicer, but for an extra $40-$50 it's just not worth it. You'd think with four hits they could at least guarantee one auto. Plus the rookie rookie selection is absolutely horrendous. At least you got quite a few rookies you've heard of in DP&P. Overall, just a very disappointing release.

What's the point in trying to build a set (especially THIS year) when 2-3 cards are liable to set you back $600?

I'd rather have a lower budget set that's a bit easier to complete.
