Edges too clean?
What are your initial thoughts when you see OPC with edges like this?
1979 OPC Wayne Gretzky PSA 7.5
Do you own any copies of this card with similar edges?

I have some OPC cards with edges that clean and I have always assumed they were trimmed and I have always marked them as trimmed when I have traded them

I have plenty of OPC cards with clean edges, besides what are your concerns with this card? it's PSA graded - it's about as authentic as you can get.
Actually I would say that only 60% of OPC's have rough cuts. I suppose some sets are worse than others.
But here is a good example, I was thinking about having this card graded too, not only that but I have like 10 of them and none of them have the "typical" or expected "rough OPC cut"::

Not sure...I get leery when I see clean cut edges on an OPC. I immediately think sheet cut

Why should a "sheet cut" even matter if the card dimensions are correct and the sheet is authentic? I mean no one said only OPC/Topps had the authority to cut cards. I mean if the card is authentic and was cut from a sheet by a collector and the dimensions are correct I wouldn't care.. I've been personally cutting cards from sheets myself. I won a stack of 4 card uncut 81/82 OPC panels - they essentially look like box bottoms - and I've been cutting them because they're in rough shape but the stars on the panels are salvageable, and the stars include a Bourque and Messier 2nd yr cards, an Andy Moog rookie along with a Stastny "In Action" rookie and I would much rather have the cards cut as singles because of the condition of the sheets than keeping the sheets uncut... Someone already cut the sheets anyway so I'm just finishing the job... I mean I don't plan on selling them or trading them anytime soon so for now they're just for me to enjoy.
Obviously if you're skeptical about a particular card you can chose to do whatever you like, I'm just giving you my position or opinion on cut cards from uncut sheets.
I'm sure "trimming" will pop up at some point in this thread so I'll just go ahead and point out that a trimmed cards are much different than a card cut from a sheet because trimmed cards don't meet the dimensions of a standard card from that particular set, while the cut cards do if the individual cutting the cards does it right... Not to mention it's deceptive and dishonest to trim a card while cutting a card from a sheet is not.. Not only that but trimmed cards don't even meet the dimensions of a standard card from that particular set and with that said I have absolutely no idea how a trimmed card could fool anyone because most of the time trimmed cards just look "off" and if you really want to prove it just take a standard common and put it on top of the suspected trimmed card and you can easily tell..
Anyway, that's just my .02 cents.

The OPC Gretzky generally have the frayed edge because they were cut with wire. The Topps version cut with blade. My guess is that comes from one of the uncut sheets that was then blade cut by its owner.
That said, even if you're peddling a fake or altered card, if its in the PSA slab...its as good as the real one.

Just playign devil's advocate.....it was not released out into packs so the sheet card is altered. Or can be altered in any way the "cutter" sees fit.
