Who won Trade Deadline Day?
As a Leafs fan i think we did okay with the players we got. We added some toughness & grit we so desperately needed. The Leafs will be able to roll 4 lines with good players on every line & the ability to score with all 4 lines, but i dont think they improved the most on this trade deadline day.
Its a tough one, im torn between Boston & Washington. It was close but i took Boston as the Overall winner today. They basically stole Taylor Hall from the Sabres. Way to go Buffalo!! & you wonder why you still suck even with good players!! How they didnt end up with a 1st round pick i have no idea!! I'm shocked!! & they get Curtis Lazar too!!
Now, lets not forget about Washington getting Anthony Mantha. I think this kid still has way higher potential than a career high 25 goals & now he will get to play with good players every shift!!
This could easily be the winner of the day but i gave it to Boston for getting a good player & giving up virtually nothing to get him.
What ya think??

Not gonna lie, the Leafs had a pretty strong deadline. I think they may have overpaid on Foligno based on the paltry return for Hall...but nice work by Dubas getting other teams to pay 75% of the contract. That's savvy. They've improved in all areas, and the acquisition of Rittich had at least one Twitterati suggesting that Freddy Andersen has played his last game in a Leafs uniform. They're steamrolling everybody in the North (except Ottawa, who gives them troubles occasionally LOL) and I'm not super duper psyched about the prospect of them playing my "we can't decide our identity from game-to-game" Habs in round one. But hey, we added some depth d-men who will hopefully be less inclined to stay at home that most of our existing corps. And I've even added both their YG's before people start charging the Montreal premium. So yay for that.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Habs beat the Leafs tonight!!
I forgot about the Islanders. They improved themselves greatly. Its gonna be fun to see who comes out of those first 2 rounds in the USA divisions. By the second round your gonna have 2 very good teams playing each other. Cant wait!!!!!

I'm a Red Wings fan and when I initially saw Mantha trade I had a negative reaction that featured me uttering obscenities to myself. I think Vrana is not quite a top 6 forward on good to great team. Panik is solid 3rd/4th line guy. 1st and 2nd round pick are pretty good but will not be high as they are Washington picks. Totally agreed that Mantha ceiling is far higher than Vrana ceiling. Stevie Y has 11 picks in first 5 rounds of next draft and 2 are in first round and 3 are 2nd. Wonder if he is going to try and swing some crazy deal to get a franchise guy bought with picks? Or maybe Yzerman hates the wings prospects. Never know. Should be interesting.
Also, I think Hall will have a good rest of year with Boston. He is certaintly due.
Also wondering if Sam Bennett does do well in a non hockey market like Miami. That could be a sneaky good trade for the Panthers.

Just to add to the steal of the year, the sabres have to pay half of Hall's salary. Go bruins

Clear winners to me are the Leafs, and the Bruins.
Boston got Hall (and Lazar) for Peanuts. What seems to have happened there is that Hall flexed his NMC (which was his right) and said "I want to go to Boston".
Leafs? I'm guessing that Anderson is done for the year. They solidified their backup spot, and in Foligno - they got the exact kind of player that most people felt they lacked. Nash (if he gets healthy) and Hutton are nice depth pieces.
Islanders also did really well, leading up to the deadline, so did Tampa.

Dave Rittich... he has an incredible opportunity laid out before himself.

Well, the 2021 draft will certainly be an interesting one considering the limited amount of scouting that has been done due to Covid - not to mention many leagues just flat-out shut it down for the 20-21 season. So with that said I anticipate numerous steals this summer - I mean I wouldn't be shocked to see future superstars drafted in later rounds just do to the limited scouting... I think Yzerman or any GM for that matter that has numerous picks in this years draft will do pretty well considering this draft is essentially a crapshoot, and if I was a GM I would certainly be buying up as many picks as possible because the price is low and IMO the more picks you have the better the chance of finding a diamond in the rough.. I mean prospect rankings generally change every few months and every draft has numerous prospects that weren't even ranked going into their draft year - or ranked too low - and their final rankings are top 100, so obviously there will be plenty of unknown talent out there who will turn out to be steals in hindsight..... IMO, I wouldn't be shocked if we see some draft eligible prospects going undrafted who will be top picks in the first half of the 2022 draft..
