Post Minnesota Vikings Hall of Famer Mick Tingelhoff Dead at 81

    https://www.outkick.com/legendary-mi...ff-dead-at-81/

The Minnesota Vikings announced on Saturday that Hall of Fame center and ironman Mick Tingelhoff has passed away at the age of 81. He became one of 17 players in NFL history to go undrafted and earn a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Tingelhoff joined the team in 1962 and led an incredible 17-year career. During his time in Minnesota, Tingelhoff accumulated six Pro Bowl nods, five first-team All-Pro honors, recorded 204 consecutive starts — failing to miss a game in his career — and was instrumental in the 1969 championship run for Minnesota.

Regarded as one of the greatest players in Vikings history, Tingelhoff’s legacy was commemorated by Vikings’ ownership in a statement released on Saturday:

“Mick Tingelhoff was the anchor of the great Vikings teams during an amazing era that included four Super Bowls. A humble but strong leader, he defined toughness. Mick’s legacy will live on as a Hall of Famer, on the field and off the field. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

The legendary center’s jersey and number have been retired at U.S. Bank Stadium. Tingelhoff has also been inducted in the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor.

I read about that yesterday. A truly amazing competitor! I saw a picture of him recently and the guy definitely looked like a former football player. Built like a fire hydrant and twice as tough. I hope he was able to enjoy his retirement in relatively good health.
