The main difference pre and post pandemic is that in the past retail was something collectors focused on for their own desires but now everyone and their neighbor who has any interest in cards is scooping it up. As I mentioned if you are on Facebook most of the breaks on there are of retail product and a lot of them have limited knowledge about sports or cards and are just looking to make a fast buck. It is what the hobby has become. Even though the interest in retail has drastically calmed down since last year, it is most definitely higher than it has ever been.

Where I am, the Walmart in town only has Magic & Pokemon now. I picked up 3 jumbo packs of Donruss football a few weeks back to restock my team lots, nothing since. Hit & miss.
A local comics shop has had to raise the prices of the top loaders they carry, and it sounds like it's getting exorbitant even for them. Walmart doesn't have top loaders per se, just the RPG equivalents."You can't have an oversight committee on stupidity!"--Woody Paige, "Around the Horn", 2/11/08
