Question, these were not all Saskatoon releases were they? Belfour (CHI), Potvin (TOR), and McLean (VAN), were regular releases?

And Ranford, I have the BOS which was the common, so the EDM mask is the special release?

And there were other regional releases as well, weren't there? Rhodes (OTT), Joseph (EDM).

Been so long forget what was common, regional, or test! Great thread, thanks.

@scarrman - It's not my set, but I can answer your questions.

(I hope I have my years right).

1996: McDonald's released the mini masks across the country. These players were available everywhere:
    Thibault
    Richter
    Roy
    Potvin
    Ranford
    Belfour
    Vanbiesbrouck

Regionally (not sure the actual breakdown) there were four more:
    Rhodes
    Cujo
    McLean
    Kidd

The first 7 are very easy to get, and the four regional ones aren't too tough.

What the OP has is a prior set, "Test Issues", that came out in 1995, and were only available in Saskatoon. I heard 2000 copies of each were made, but not sure about that number.

That set of 7 is what he's showing....

Look Nearly Identical to the Regular one from the following year:
    Felix Potvin
    Ed Belfour
    Kirk McLean

No mask the following year in the regular set:
    Tim Cheveldae (Jets)
    Guy Hebert (Ducks)
    Wade Flaherty (Sharks)

    Changed Teams:
Bill Ranford (Test mask is Oilers, regular release is Bruins)

The difference with the first three (Potvin, Belfour, McLean) is that the masks are NOT bilingual. They have English only writing on them. The other four (Cheveldae, Hebert, Flaherty, Ranford) are also English only, but they're easily identifiable - because they weren't in the main release the next year.

I don't know about the others, but the Ranford Oilers mask will sell for $100+ USD on eBay.

Thanks for clarifying, makes total sense.

I have the set of 11 from the 1996 release, with the 4 regionals. Assume they are all bilingual packaging, and so are different than the first release of the 3 - Potvin/Belfour/McLean.

Great to know, and nice set for djmards.

I can't seem to see the picture of your Test Market set.
