    individual or complete set??

    Hi All,

Looking to offload a pretty good sized collection of cards (topps, OPC, Score, Pro-Set, Upper Deck) and had a question in regards to if was better off selling rookie cards on their own or as part of the complete set they are part of. I have a number of complete sets of cards from late 70's to early-mid 90's with mint rookies like Mike Bossy, Mario Lemieux, Roy, Sakic, Forsberg, Jagr, Broduer, Sundin and a number of others. These have all been in plastic for over 20yrs but never had graded. would i be better trying to see as individual cards after getting them graded or better to sell the whole set?? Looking for opinions, thoughts, etc?

    thanks,

    sam

Here are some of my thoughts…

Key rookies pre 1988: sell them individually

Star cards (80s Gretzkys, 70s Lafleurs, for example): sell as a lot

Commons/uncommons: group by condition and sell as a lot

1989 and newer can be sold by the set, but it often is better to sell these on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace.

    Welcome to SCF!

Depending on how truly "mint" those key HHOF RC's are, you would probably want to get them graded and sell individually. Unfortunately there's a real backlog right now with the major grading companies, but it would likely be worth the time & investment to make a submission. Check with a couple friends, have them look over the cards' edges, corners, front & back, and if they look strong you are looking at a big bump in your potential asking price. Right now a raw Patrick Roy OPC will get you $150-$250 depending on the eye test....a PSA 7 you are looking at $500'ish, a PSA8 can get you $1,000 and a PSA 9 could be upwards of $3,000.

Selling as a set will get them gone quicker, as there's lot of folks out there who would take on the whole set raw and then go through them all to determine other cards for grading purposes. You'll probably get less than the above option, but if you want to sell them quickly that's the easier option.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much. no rush here so will most likley get a number of these cards out for PSA grading. i know the backlog but in the end, think will be worth it.

    Regards
