Carlos Correa signs with the Twins
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/...tdg6yhbdaw8wnv
The free-agent shortstop agreed to a contract with the Twins early Saturday, The Associated Press and Houston TV sports anchor Mark Berman reported. The deal is pending a physical.
Correa and his reps had been negotiating a return to the Astros, with team owner Jim Crane getting involved in the talks.
Correa's time in the Twin Cities might be brief, based on how the contract reportedly is structured.
How much did it take for the Twins to land the top remaining free agent? Here's what has been reported so far.
Correa reportedly agreed to a three-year contract worth $105.3 million. That would make the average annual value (AAV) $35.1 million.
The Associated Press reported that the deal would place Correa fourth overall in AAV, behind the Mets' Max Scherzer ($43.3 million); the Yankees' Gerrit Cole, a former teammate of Correa's in Houston ($36 million); and the Angels' Mike Trout ($35.5 million). That means he will become the highest-paid infielder in the game. Jon Heyman of MLB Network noted that Correa passed the Angels' Anthony Rendon ($35 million). Berman reported in November that the Astros offered Correa $160 million over five years, a $32 million AAV.

Twins still have lots of needs, especially starting pitching.
