Brewers catcher Pedro Severino gets 80 game suspension
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...drug-test.html
Milwaukee catcher Pedro Severino was suspended for 80 games on Tuesday following a positive drug test for Clomiphene - a female fertility drug that has been banned by Major League Baseball as a performance enhancer.
Severino will lose about half his $1.9 million salary due to the suspension.
The commissioner's office reported that Severino tested positive for Clomiphene, which is used to induce ovulation in women. The drug is prohibited by many athletic and testing organizations, including the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Clomiphene can block the body's estrogen receptors, which could allow for athletes to mask signs of steroid use and allow them to maintain strength while juicing, according to Northwestern University's School of Professional Studies.
Men can suffer increased risk of heart problems, liver damage, and gastrointestinal issues by using the drug, according to the USADA.
In fact, there is no FDA-approved use of Clomiphene for men, but according to Severino, he was prescribed the drug by a doctor in his native Dominican Republic.
