Owen Power
Seeing as how he has now debuted with the Sabres, does anyone think his rookie cards will now appear in 2021-22 products? Or will Upper Deck include him as a carryover rookie in 2022-23? Seeing as how there are still so many products that have yet to be released for this season, I don't see why they shouldn't include him this year.

I think this is driven by specific cutoff dates. I am unsure where they are defined or what they are. My guess is that he will be in 22-23 products. For any normal year, we would be seeing the Extended (was in SP Authentic) update young guns in the next month or so.

Yeah him and the other recent rookies to debut will be in the 2022-23 sets.

Since Seth Jones and Marc Andre Fleury were traded to the Blackhawks in July 2021 and are on 2021-22 cards for the Blue Jackets and Golden Knights, it may take Upper Deck a few years to even realize he is playing in the NHL.

I wonder if Fleury will even have cards in the Black Hawks jersey, considering he's now in Minnesota?
On a side note, is Series 1 this year the worst product Upper Deck has ever released? Only carryover rookies, tonnes of quality issues, and very meh inserts IMO. MVP offered much greater value, at less than half the price.

For sure he's a 2022-23 Rookie Card.
UDS1 came out very late, but remember - the checklist and cards were likely finalized back in the fall. Printing delays was the problem.
It is odd seeing the entire Series 1 be carry overs - but if I will to make an educated guess... they expected printing delays, and got things finalized as early as possible... to try and get the set out in a reasonable amount of time (which still didn't happen). Zegras & Caufield gave them to big name forwards, toss in Knight & Swayman for a couple of very good goalies - and it's not like the checklist was void of any star talent. Usually the #1 pick would have found their way into that set: Owen Power wasn't going to get a card anyway.
Series 2 should have a strong checklist, and I'm guessing they'll hold a couple of decent RCs back for Extended Series too.
There's a cutoff date. I don't recall when exactly, but I think the end of January. Anyone who debuts after that, they have to wait until next year.
As for players not being with their new teams: This is normal with cards released in the fall..... and all we've had so far (MVP, OPC, UDS1) are sets that should have been released in the fall.
I'd be surprised if MAF as a Blackhawk isn't already in production.

Power will be a 2022-23 rookie for sure. Historically the All-Star Weekend has been the cutoff for the current season. Will be some good value-added for next year, as the #1 picks are usually rushed right into the NHL in their draft years, so a bit of a unique road to the NHL for Power compared to some of his contemporaries.

The cutoff between 221-22 Extended and 2022-23 products was Jan. 4th. Unfortunately that means someone like Matt Boldy will have RCs next season but won't actually be a rookie anymore. What I'm interested in is which of Shane Wright, Owen Power, and Matt Berniers ends up in 2022-23 Series 1

Wonder if anyone has ever won the Calder before their YG was released?

I'll do you one better - Ken Dryden won the Conn Smythe before winning the Calder. LOL
This whole year has been one bizarre twilight world event after another.
