New York Yankees cut prospect Jake Sanford for stealing quipment from his teammates

A 24-year-old baseball player who signed as a prospect for the Yankees in 2019 has been released from the team after he was found to be stealing from his minor league teammates, and putting the goods on sale online.

Jake Sanford offered the stolen items for sale on social media and online market places, and then defrauded fans who bought the goods. He would take their money, and then fail to send the items.

Sanford, from the Nova Scotia city of Dartmouth, was released by the New York-based team last week.

He had been paid a $597,500 signing bonus after being drafted in the third round of the June 2019 Amateur Draft, joining from Western Kentucky University.

Sanford has now deleted all his social media accounts, which he used to tout the stolen goods.

The New York Post said sources claimed he could have been trying to pay off gambling debts.

He has now returned to Canada, and been signed by the Ottawa Titans, in the Frontier League.
