NHL Free Agent Frenzy Discussion Thread

The floodgates will open at noon EDT / 9am PDT tomorrow as UFA period commences! There are some highly prominent names headlining free agency this summer, including the likes of Evgeni Malkin, Johnny Gaudreau, Nazem Kadri, John Klingberg, Darcy Kuemper, and many more.

As always tomorrow you'll be able to follow all the action on Sportsnet, TSN, RDS, etc., in Canada.

For the Habs, apparently there is a deal in place to trade Jeff Petry, according to Renaud Lavoie. Why it hasn't been announced yet - Petry is due a $3M signing bonus at midnight tonight, so if the rumour is true, it's probably part of the deal that the Habs have to pick up that $3M. It will be interesting to see what the return may be and what other player(s) could be involved. He's been a stalwart for a few years now, though last season was far from his best hockey.

Beyond that, there is very little cap room in Montreal so I don't anticipate them doing much unless there is that trade (or others) first.

But I'm always open to pleasant surprises.
