Former Carolina Panthers cornerback Rashard Anderson has passed away at age 45.

Anderson died Wednesday in Mississippi, the team confirmed. The cause of his death is unknown at this time.

The Panthers selected Anderson as the 23rd overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft, after he had starred at Jackson State University.

The team issued a statement Thursday saying their 'condolences go out to his family and loved ones.'

Anderson's passing follows a slew of former and current football players who have died at a young age.

Most recently, the Baltimore Ravens saw two players die in the same week - former defensive tackle Tony Siragusa, 55, and 26-year-old linebacker Jaylon Ferguson.
