As a Blues fan, I can see Krug and Tarasenko for Tkachuk. Really don't see Kyrou, Krug, and a 1st. Tarasenko still has not rescinded his trade request, so as much as I don't like it it is time to move him. That being said, I don't think Calgary would be on his list of approved teams. (Especially with the departures that are happening.)

Flames get Huberdeau, Weegar, a prospect, and 1st round pick.
Didn't see that coming. lol
Great return except Huberdeau is a UFA in one year.

If Calgary can sign Huberdeau to an extension, I think they’ll be the long-term winners of the trade.

I don't know.
Huby has played in Florida his entire career so him and his Lamborghini might be used to warm winter's by now. Or he may want to return home and play for the Hab's?
Whatever the case, for now Calgary has 2 rentals, and average prospect plus a late 1st rd pick. If neither resign they can still get a nice haul of draft picks in return at next years deadline.
Florida gets a player in his prime locked up for 8 years in exchange for soon to be 30 year old UFA. Assuming they knew they were going to lose Huberdeau next year for nothing, this seems like a pretty good move.
Meanwhile Matthew Tkachuk gets a near 80 million $ payday to play in a state that has no personal income tax.
The winner of the Tkachuck trade is...Tkachuk. Ugh, Life isn't fair. lol

I actually stayed up late to watch some of the games between the two Alberta rivals in the playoffs and I didn't see anything from Tkachuk that would suggest he is worth what Florida just paid him.

If they can get both of those guys signed to extensions, they fleeced the Panthers. Tkachuk is a good player, but Huberdeau is a great one.
I did not see Calgary winning a Matthew Tkachuk trade, but they are better (on paper) than they were before the deal.
What happens with both of them long term is key though. If they have to move Huberdeau and Weager for futures - suddenly the trade become Tkachuk for a bunch of magic beans, and it's a deal they'll almost certainly lose.

According to one report both Huby and Weegar are open to signing long term with the Flames. I'm not a Flames fan that would be pretty cool. It's more fun when all the Canadian based teams are competitive.

Yeah they said as much in their "welcome to Calgary" press conference today. Could just be lip service but you'd like to hope they are being truthful. If they get Huby especially re-signed, that's just such a huge win, even if he is now into his 30's.
