Footballs in the stands???
I was watching The NFL count down on sports channel and they were saying that a football player gets finned 2500$ for throwing a football in the stands after a touch down. Are you kindding me that's insane, you can't buy the publicity and the joy you give the fans in the stands when they catch a ball. It's just like any sport where a fan catches a puck or a baseball. You have a fan for life. And the NFL is giving out fines for that. That's absolutely CRAZY. The NFL should be thanking the player for promoting the game. Well that's my two bits. Thanks.

Well, they still do it. Ya know why? Because what is $2500 to Chad Johnson or Steve Smith? NOTHING. The publicity and getting the crowd into the game is worth more than $2500 to those guys.

I believe the issue, and therefore the fine, arises from actually throwing it into the stands. Handing the ball to someone should be different. But when a ball is tossed into the stands, there is a high degree of likelihood a riot could ensue and after all, inciting a riot is a CRIME... (NFL line of thinking?) Maybe that's why you can't use a pylon as a golf club to celebrate a touchdown? Outlaw the forward pass and cheerleaders and beer and flea flickers and popcorn vendors and bobbleheads and jumbotrons, too!

I agree with justsanders, I am 99% sure it is only when I player throws it, not just handing it to a fan, if they give it to a fan they just have to repay the NFL for a ball which is not $2500.
