Exclamation Rangers sign Jacob deGrom to 5 year $185 million deal

    https://www.mlb.com/news/jacob-degro...s-with-rangers

The Rangers pulled off a stunner ahead of next week's Winter Meetings, signing ace right-hander Jacob deGrom to a five-year free-agent contract on Friday night. The deal will pay deGrom $185 million, a source told MLB.com; the club has not confirmed the value of the contract.

deGrom, 34, is one of the most decorated pitchers of his generation, a two-time National League Cy Young Award winner as a Met who bloomed late but continued to improve into his early 30s.

Lowest ERA in 1st 200 career starts, since ER became official in both leagues in 1913:

    Jeff Pfeffer: 2.33
    Dutch Leonard: 2.39
    Tom Seaver: 2.41
    Carl Mays: 2.47
    Jacob deGrom: 2.50 https://t.co/qs4X8tMaRL

They say teams dropped out on Judge for health reasons too, so it looks like the Giants and Yankees!

Just what the Yankees need. Another overpaid free agent that is made out of glass. At a position they supposedly have loads of guys in the minors who can play right now in the majors to boot

I don't think he's high in the mix anymore.(Correa). It sounds as though Rondon, and/or verlander are on their radar. I guess they offered Judge an 8 yr deal, he wants 9. Let him go. Be like having ARod all over again.I don't know if volpe is ready for majors, at least as a hitter.

Yeah, I thought 8 years was too much. It should be six years max with 3 to 4 “add-on years” that are individually activated when he plays a certain amount of games/performs at a certain level during the prior season.
