I ran into a similar predicament although this was a box of Topps Chrome FB (Hobby) that left out of the guaranteed auto...

Sent in the box, 1 pack, and a letter... Got back a letter claiming they needed the receipt... I had to go back to the hobby shop, get a receipt for the box and then send that in certified....

3 weeks later I receieved another letter, but this time it included a Brad Smith Auto....

They do require a lot now, mainly to protect the world from searchers, thiefs, etc. It is getting out of hand, but it protects them from wasting money...

It really seems extraneous, but they are a business and they're just protecting their business interests.

The one thing about Topps that pisses me off (besides celebrity cards, multiple parallels, etc) is that I got a Bogut Pristine rookie card uncirculated auto...#/20. Unfortunately, because their uncirculated card case was slgihtly bigger than the card itself, the card got a massive ding on one of the corners. I sent it in expecting to get a replacement...instead I get a JKidd auto uncirculated #/25 or something.

I get the #1 pick auto rc replaced by JKidd (a fine player, no doubt) #ed to a higher number?! I complained all I could but they said I couldn't send the JKidd back to them for another Bogut because they were not entitled to make such a transaction. I proceeded to ask them if I could get at least another rookie auto #/20; they said they couldn't cater to personal requests...

Needless to say, I am oh so very wary of Topps products now...

Topps and UD are on a downward spiral and they are dragging us along with them.

Let me know what becomes of this. Good luck.

Yeah the operative word being "was". Don't get me started on them. In a nut shell I sent them some cards for replacement around March (about 1/2 a blaster box that was damaged due to really sub level packing).
Well I was used to getting something back from them really fast and they were always good to me in the past. I even liked that they were a state company I could support. I was bummed about them losing the baseball license.
At any rate after about 6 monthes I thought I would send them and email to ask what the status was on them. 5 emails and a letter to the CS later and I haven't gotten so much as a "bug off" from them. At this point I would perfer that to being ignored.

All in all I am really starting to get POed at the industry as a whole. Seriously thinking about quiting at this point.

I honestly don't care if there is a problem with pack searchers, or thieves, the MAJORITY of us are honest collectors that just want a decent product at a decent price and to be taken care of when the company screws up or gets to lazy in their quality control. We shouldn't be screwed over for the few that are taking advantage. And again I point out here that I may be naive but I really can't believe it has become that big a problem.
And if it is they need to figure something else out besides alienating those of us that have been loyal supporters of their product since 1987 (personally) or longer. Not sure if this is accomplishing what they really want. Might "protect their business" right into bankruptcy like Fleer did. I know it seems like a long shot but how many people 5 year ago would have wagered they would go down? I am not getting on you tierre_brown by using the "" on your quote. I agree that is what they are doing. Just doing it wrong.
Isn't it pretty easy to tell the difference between a damaged corner or a tear on top from a crease down the middle?

Like I said before there wouldn't be such a problem if they weren't Cramming in the packs in boxes now days.

I will keep you all updated I have one more paper to write as a final by Wed but I do intend on calling this week or next to see what the "official" explanations is.

And after Bowman Sterling FB which I had such high hopes for, I agree with you Jay. Downhill like an olympic skiier.
