New guy looking for some advice on how to TTM

Hi, I've never done TTM but I heard about this through a Facebook group. My son (he's 8 years old and in his first year of Rep baseball) want to get into this but I could really use some assistance.
1. I see with some players people post about sending a fee. Ffor example, I'm from Toronto and a big Jays fan so was looking at Joe Carter - people say they sent a $10 fee. How do you find out which players need fees and how much to send? And do you always just sent cash? I would love to try for Nolan Ryan as well and I heard he requires a donation - would that just be in cash?

2. What do people usually put in their letters? Do you send personalized letters with a bit of a story? Any guidelines on length?

3. Since I'm sending from Canada, I had my Aunt in the USA send me some USA>Canada stamps so I think this should be all good but are there any other Canadians with anything specific I need to do?

I'm sure I will have lots more questions but really excited to get started. Thanks so much for your help.
