    Topps RC vs Bowman 1st

Im sure this has been discussed before, but struggled in the searching. Which do you consider the better rookie to collect?
On one hand, Topps and MLB have certain rules and first in actual uniform.
On the other hand, Bowman 1st is usually only a few cards, rather than dozens.

    So where do you stand?

Probably depends on what better would mean. Is it the most expensive and valuable or better because of a lower print run? Right now there is a demand for a card with the RC logo and that matches up with when a player debuts but that was not always the case. I still think Bowman 1st year stuff is valuable than most 1st Topps rookie card logo stuff but there's a catch with this. That really only happens when a player is in Topps Update. Topps Update rookies will have a much lower print run than Topps Series 1 or Series 2 will have because they print out a zillion boxed sets every year in addition to the ones you can pull in packs. That's why people originally cared for the Mike Trout 2011 Topps Update even though when it came out nobody wanted it because nobody wanted RC logo cards. So I'd rather have a Bowman versus a Topps series 1/2 but I'd rather have an Update over a Bowman. That's for the short term but I think long term people are just going to want the first autograph card Bowman/Topps/or something else because the print run on these base cards is way too high for them to hold any significant value IMO. Even in PSA 10 condition there are hundreds to thousands of these base cards.

Thanks, and I think "better" might have been the wrong choice of words. Perhaps "more desired". Which can of course mean more valuable, but for those not selling, perhaps the chase of finding means as much.

    I think @pwaldo offered a nice response.

As a collector, I personally don't collect many Bowman 1st, so for me I prefer the RC's. I understand the comment about "so many" of them, but I try to stick with Topps S1, S2, Update, and Chrome.

Prospecting can be a very difficult game with the Bowman 1st cards.
