Former NFL quarterback Frank Ryan died from Alzheimer's disease at the age of 87 on New Year's Day.

Ryan led the Cleveland Browns to their last title in 1964 with a 27-0 victory over the Baltimore Colts in the NFL Championship game.

The former signal caller had been in a nursing home in Waterford, Connecticut before passing away, his son, Frank 'Pancho' Ryan Jr. told Cleveland.com.

Ryan played in the NFL for 13 years and was with the Browns from 1962 until 1968, finishing with a 52-22 record as a Cleveland starter.

He threw three touchdown passes during the 1964 NFL Championship game, helping the Browns produce a stunning upset over the Colts.
