I remember seeing Mauer at AAA Rochester. He wasn’t there long before moving to the MLB.

Beltre an easy pick. Helton, sure why not. Mauer though, I’m not sure about. He was great but, here’s the thing, Don Mattingly has 9 gold gloves to Joe’s 3. Mattingly also bested Mauer in almost all offensive categories with almost 100 less games played. I know Mauer was catcher but still.
Yankees + Todd Greene collector. There are tens of thousands of Yankees I need. My grail card is a 2005 Topps Pristine Fielder's Choice Glove Relics #TG Todd Greene.

By lowering the bar at first base by putting in Fred McGriff and Todd Helton I don't see how Mattingly, Keith Hernandez, and Steve Garvey are going to to be kept out. Mauer isn't shocking since he did his damage as a catcher and that position never had that many batting titles before but it was a little strange to see him get in so quickly. Not many catchers have gone in on the first try. Just a couple Bench/Irod and now him?

Mauer was given credence because he was one of the top hitting catchers of all-time before injuries hampered the remainder of his career. Think you may have exaggerated just a bit when you say Matting bested him in all most all batting categories. (5-7) Mattingly is probably deserving also. IMO the big difference is a catcher vs 1st baseman, even though Mauer finished his career at 1st and DH.
