I remember seeing Mauer at AAA Rochester. He wasn’t there long before moving to the MLB.

By lowering the bar at first base by putting in Fred McGriff and Todd Helton I don't see how Mattingly, Keith Hernandez, and Steve Garvey are going to to be kept out. Mauer isn't shocking since he did his damage as a catcher and that position never had that many batting titles before but it was a little strange to see him get in so quickly. Not many catchers have gone in on the first try. Just a couple Bench/Irod and now him?

Mauer was given credence because he was one of the top hitting catchers of all-time before injuries hampered the remainder of his career. Think you may have exaggerated just a bit when you say Matting bested him in all most all batting categories. (5-7) Mattingly is probably deserving also. IMO the big difference is a catcher vs 1st baseman, even though Mauer finished his career at 1st and DH.
