2018 WJC imminent arrests

The key there is....will CDN authorities allow someone charged with a serious crime to pursue employment in a foreign country (especially Russia)? I'm going to say, no they won't. Those guys are good enough to play in Russia, but getting there is another matter entirely. They'll be released on their recognizance, as long as they don't go anywhere. I'm pretty sure they'll have to surrender their passports as well.

I'm like 98% sure they've turned in their passports, and are stuck in Canada until this is over. I'm assuming this will go to trial..... once that trial is over: Anyone found guilty, they might have to serve time in jail. Once that's complete, they probably can have their passports back, and they probably could play in Russia. If they're found not guilty, they'll be able to move on and play somewhere else right away - but I suspect Russia will be the only option (not guilty MIGHT get them opportunities in other parts of Europe).

It also seems that this is going to take at least another 18 months before there will be any resolution (and perhaps longer than that. I've seen '2026 trial date' speculated, a lot).

I would be shocked, regardless of the verdict, if these guys ever play in the NHL again.

Same here, NHL careers = over.. Whatever the verdicts are!

btw, never been easy to find a good goalie in Philly (for years anyway)...
