SGC announced there was an alteration to a recently graded LeBron James RPA. Shortly after posting a picture of a Mint 9, 10 auto 2003-04 LeBron James Exquisite Rookie Patch Auto /99, SGC says they received information that there was an alteration to the patch embedded in the card.
From there, SGC says they began investigating, confirmed the alteration, and contacted the appropriate parties to address the situation. They followed up by mentioning that a “satisfactory resolution” was reached by the collector who submitted the LeBron, and now the card is in an Authentic Altered slab.

“We take issues like this one extremely seriously and take full ownership of this unacceptable error. We recognize the impact that SGC has on the trading card community, and we do not take the trust that you put in us lightly,” SGC wrote. “You all know us well enough by now to understand how much we love our supporters and the hobby as a whole. We take immense pride in what we do, and no one appreciates the responsibility of safeguarding the hobby more than we do. While this will be a difficult one for our team to move past, we take solace in the fact that this card has now been assessed accurately and will no longer mislead the collecting community.”
It’s certainly not the first time a LeBron James Exquisite RPA has been at the forefront of controversy. Looking at Litagator Paul Lesko’s Twitter timeline, you can see a series of tweets regarding the Spiegel’s v. Card Porn.
The Spiegel’s allege that they listed one of the 2003-04 LeBron James Exquisite RPA’s /99 with Goldin and Card Porn “began posting false, libelous and defamatory written posts…alleging that the [card] was not authentic.”
Lesko says the complaint continued alleging that as a result of the defamatory claims made by Card Porn, and while the card bids were at $690,000 (and expecting to go to $2M), Goldin pulled it from auction.
You can read more about the case here on Lesko’s Twitter account.
