Do Blaster Boxes Make Sense To Buy?
Hey guys,
I'm new to the game, as you can see by this being my first post. My local Target sells various Blaster Boxes, I ended up picking one up the other night. It was a 06/07 Upper Deck Blaster, $19.99 for 8 packs. I didn't really hit anything too spectacular, but since I haven't bought a pack of cards in a decade, I considered what I got to be huge pulls.
My question is this, does it make sense to buy Blasters? I could instead get a hobby box, get three times the number of packs, and it would cost three times the amount I paid including shipping. I'd be paying the same per pack but I'd be guaranteed at least one GU, as opposed to buying three Blasters and not being guaranteed anything.
I convinced myself that it doesn't make sense to buy Blasters, but then I started reading this forum and saw that a lot of people are buying them.
What's everyone think?

In my expierences i think buying hobby boxes is the way to go, Blaster boxes i have never had any luck with them sure some people pull good stuff but it may have took them 6 20.00 boxes to get a 25.00 Autograph or Game-Used and most hobby boxes you buy any more for 80.00 guarantees 1 Autpgraph and 2 game-used so take my advice go for hobby boxes.

if you can afford it, hobby boxes are the way to go. the result in higher end cards that can be used for trades to get the cards you want. most of the pulls from retail boxes won't result in much trade value. about the only use for retail boxes is that us get to bust a couple of packs for cheap.

i normally agree that hobby is the way to go, and odds are it is,,,but i gotta tell ya my luck has been pretty crappy with hobby boxes lately. i've bought alot of $80-$100 boxes and havent pulled more than a $40 card in a couple months. in contrast i've bought probably about 10 blaster boxes in the same time frame and pulled 3 different bush rookies worth $50 or more, and a marino refractor worth $50, also a ton of $20-$40 cards...so i've been tempted to stick to the blasters.....now granted i've had a couple that i only had maybe 1 $10 card out of the whole box, but it seems like they try to pack 1 or 2 decent cards in them

you can get good luck with retail every now and then. i have noticed that if you buy retail boxes when the first come out, you have a good chance of getting something worth more than the box. after about a week or so...the odds drop drastically. at least, that's been my experience. i still buy retail boxes since i enjoy busting packs and rarely mess with hobby. i usually just buy the good cards on ebay.

I am a ripper addict and will buy Blasted boxes to satisfy my lust. If I had a shop around me I would buy Hobby much more, so in one sense it might be a good thing. Overall Hobby is the way to go. I busted a couple hobby and blasted boxes lately and the hobby was much better. Five blasted boxes and 2 GU and tons of rookies but nothing earth shattering. While the Hobby was a much better.
Remember to collect for the fun of it and forget about the Beckett value and you will have more fun.

usually people buy blasters because they have a urge to bust some wax (this is why i buy them) however some like the bowman draft boxes have been getting the same stuff in 2 blasters you'd get in a hobby box
