Post Raptors Jontay Porter under investigation for throwing play due to gambling on prop bets

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/nb...nation_desktop

The NBA has opened up an investigation into Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter over suspected betting irregularities over the course of several months.

Reports from ESPN indicate that the issues surround a number of prop bets that involved Porter in games on January 26 and March 20.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Porter has been taken out of the Raptors lineup tonight as a result of this investigation.

The irregularities stem from a January 26 game against the LA Clippers. Prop bets on Porter for the night set the line at 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 3-pointers made. Those were all of increased betting interest.

Porter only played four minutes before leaving the game due to what the Raptors deemed a re-aggravation of an eye injury. He didn't score against the Clippers, but had three rebounds and one assist - hitting the under on all of those prop lines.

According to a daily report to users made by DraftKings Sportsbook, the under bet on Porter's '3-pointers made' line was the biggest money winner for bettors of any NBA player prop on a game that night.

A similar issue reared its head on a March 20 game against the Phoenix Suns. Sportsbook set his line at 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.

But Porter played just three minutes before leaving due to an illness, per team reports. He finished with two rebounds and no points.

Once again, the under bet on Porter's props were the No. 1 moneymaker for player prop bets in the NBA that night.

League policy bans players and employees from betting on any league events, including prop bets.

Punishments include fines, suspensions, and termination of contracts, among other actions.

The league has really promoted gambling as of late, so unfortunately it's no surprise things like this are happening.

    Wow!

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/nb...-gambling.html

A league investigation found Toronto's two-way player both disclosed confidential health information to sports bettors and gambled on games himself.

Porter, the league said, gave a bettor information about his own health status prior to Toronto's game on March 20 against the Sacramento Kings.

The league said another individual, known to be an NBA bettor, placed an $80,000 bet that Porter would not hit the numbers set for him in parlays through an online sports book. That bet would have won $1.1million.

Porter took himself out of that game after only a few minutes, claiming illness, none of his stats meeting the totals set in the parlay. The bet was frozen and not paid out, and the NBA started an investigation.
